Meet the Team - Jamie

Why did you decide to join Bureau?

After 14 years in sales, the opportunity to join Bureau and to pursue a new challenge within an industry that I’ve always had an affinity for, was too great to pass up! I’m really excited about the opportunity to develop and build new opportunities for Bureau in the London & South East region.

What makes you passionate about the commercial furniture industry?

With the evolution of the workplace so apparent in the UK, and the ever-increasing focus within companies on how the workplace impacts talent attraction and retention, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be involved in commercial furniture space.

What do you think the commercial furniture industry will look like in 5 years?

The traditional workplace continues to evolve into a more collaborative and multi-zonal working environment, with employee experience being central to this. This is especially important when talent attraction and retention is so vital in today’s competitive landscape. I expect the commercial furniture industry to continue to evolve in line with this shift and to take a more holistic approach, most likely utilising technology, to curate furniture that aids the conception of aspirational work places.

What will the office of the future look like?

The office of the future will harness technology to create a more fulfilling experience for employees and visitors alike. New advances will help businesses understand how people / staff engage within their workplace but also how to utilise their space more effectively. With a move away from the one size fits all mentality, the office of the future will have an emphasis on collaborative, interactive and aspirational working environments, where people will feel happier and more productive.

What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on?

The most exciting project has to be the Onfido project – it was not only an excellent opportunity to learn about the incredible product the industry has to offer, but also to work very closely with the client to create what will be an amazing work environment for their people. We’re currently working on this project and I’m very excited to see the final results.

If you had to choose one interior design style, what would it be?

Style wise, I’ve always liked the minimal clean lines of the Scandinavian approach to stylish and functional interior design.

What’s your favourite piece of furniture?

I have always liked 50’s furniture, with the ‘Seal’ chair by Ib Kofod-Larsen being one of my favourites. I also love the Lounge chair and Ottoman by Charles & Ray Eames.

Where are you likely to be on a Friday night?

These days, I’m most likely in Clerkenwell on a Friday night… my new home from home!

If you could have a beer with anyone, who would it be?

I’d love to have a beer with the late Bill McLaren, a legendary rugby commentator whose knowledge about the great game and humour was unbeatable.

Where would you like to go on vacation if money was no object?

I’ve always wanted to go to Bhutan to maybe catch a glimpse of the Himalayan tiger!

If you could time travel, which period of time would you go back to visit?

The 1950’s – so much was happening, it was probably one of the most important periods for design & architecture.

There are now 25 hours in a day! How do you spend your extra hour?

Probably researching the vast furniture industry to find new and upcoming designers!

What is an interesting fact about you that nobody at work knows?

I have a Vinyl collection of over 5,000 records.

What’s your superpower?

Ability to pass through walls (very thin walls!)

Sum yourself up in three words?

Honest, dedicated and passionate.
