We recently had the pleasure of working with GoCardless, a rapidly growing financial technology business based in Clerkenwell. Ranked eighth in Deloitte’s Fast 50 – an award scheme acknowledging the top 50 fastest growing tech companies across the UK- GoCardless enables businesses to collect payments by Direct Debit. Currently operating in the UK, Eurozone and Australia, GoCardless are on a mission to become a global bank-to-bank payment method. For this project, which was spread across three floors, Peldon Rose provided the design and fit out of the GoCardless office, with Bureau delivering a range of services from furniture consultancy to project management.
With an expanding workforce, GoCardless needed to move to a larger space but still wanted to maintain their bustling start-up culture. A crucial element in the design of the office was to create various working spaces that would encourage collaboration between employees. The needs of staff were always at the forefront of this project, from open-plan breakout areas for group brainstorming, to private spaces that provide a quiet place for staff to fully immerse themselves and focus in a tranquil, yet creative environment.
"Having worked with Bureau on many projects, I am consistently impressed by their care and commitment to get everything right. Our new GoCardless home looks fantastic and it is wonderful to see the whole team enjoying the space and facilities!" - Jackie McRobert, Senior Facilities Manager
Spacestor acoustic booths provided an excellent option for employees who wanted some privacy to work within the larger breakout area, reinforcing the idea of a collaborative working culture. Several lifestyle products were also incorporated to give the office a home away from home atmosphere.
From an entertainment area featuring Hay’s Mags modular sofa, board games and ping-pong table, to Fatboy’s contemporary Headdemock Hammock. The office also features modern bleacher style seating used for group meetings and events (our very own Office Move 101 event was held in this area too!).
At the heart of the GoCardless office is the kitchen area. Spread over two floors, the kitchen has been designed in such a way that employees from all floors are included. Soft Edge chairs and stools by Hay were chosen for the large kitchen space, which offered a clean and fresh Scandi aesthetic. The long, sleek Mix dining table by Workstories seats 20 and is surrounded by contemporary chairs in a range of hues.
The main office area of GoCardless features a range of ergonomic designs from adjustable stand up desks to the ergonomic S30 task chairs by Workstories. This specific approach to office design aims to deliver optimum employee health and well-being through effective placement and support of equipment. With over 200 members of staff to cater for, an ergonomically designed office enables GoCardless to get the best out of their employees and increase staff morale and productivity.
Although the office has plenty of space for staff to sit back and unwind, there are also various themed meeting rooms. Each room has been cleverly named after a different currency to emphasize not only the company’s global market reach, but also the financial world in which they operate. Solid ply-core meeting tables with Fenix laminate tops by Workstories and Vitra Eames Chairs were chosen for optimum style and high functionality.
"It was great working with Hiroki, Jackie, Meghan and the team on the new GoCardless office space. Furniture was chosen to support and reflect the company culture and working practices, productivity and wellbeing. We’re delighted to have been part of the project team, and look forward to seeing GoCardless grow and flourish in their new home." - The Bureau Team
