Meet The Team - Michael
This week we chat with Bureau's General Manager, Michael Forbes.
Tell us a bit about what your role at Bureau?
I work closely with architects and designers, sourcing and supplying contemporary furniture to help create beautiful interiors! I also have a general role overseeing the day-to-day activities of the business; looking at the overall brand strategy, and in-particular the integration of Bureau into the Houseology Group following our exciting merger with the e-commerce business.
How long have you been working in the industry?
I’ve been in the design industry for 14 years, opening a design and marketing studio in Canada in 2003. I studied Interior Design, and have always been fascinated with how people use space, and how the interior is a critical part of a brand experience. This led me into the commercial furniture sector and the sourcing of products to meet a brief or solve a problem - which I love!
What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on?
I recently worked with global travel brand Skyscanner on their new London office!
What’s your favourite piece of furniture?
The beautiful CH27 armchair by Hans Wegner – a timeless classic!
Where are you likely to be on a Friday night?
In a pub plotting my next art exhibition! I’m part of a design collective who are always up to something interesting!
If you could have a beer with anyone, who would it be?
It would have to be Dutch graphic designer and typographer, Wim Crouwel. He’s a true icon of design and a lovely chap!
Is there anything you want the world to know about you?
I once appeared in a TV advert for hair!
Where is your favourite place in the world?
The Muskokas in Ontario, Canada - such a beautiful and relaxing part of the world.
What’s your motto?
“Weniger, aber besser” the phrase coined by Dieter Rams to describe his approach to design, “Less, but better”.
Sum yourself up in three words?
Coffee drinking mod!
